How Great Female Leaders Inspire Action

You might have wondered whether you have what it takes to succeed as a woman in this very male-dominated world.

Let’s make one thing very clear here: Yes, you do, and you will succeed.

In this article we’ll discuss the thought process behind inspiring action as a badass woman leader.

Understanding Simon Sinek’s ‘Golden Circle‘ to become a Great Leader

Simon Sinek is an ethnographer, writer, blogger, and philanthropist, to name a few feathers in his cap.

He has spent several years studying the behavior of leaders and has found that great leaders promote why they do something instead of selling what they do.

He created the Golden Circle diagram to put his point across clearly, which consists of three simple questions that you should ask yourself and your business.

  • Why do you do it? Ask the reason for its existence.
  • How do you do it? Find out your USP or production methods.
  • What do you do? Figure out the products or services that you will sell or tasks that you’ll engage in.

Understanding the Importance of Answering the ‘WHY’

“People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.“

According to Sinek, when you ask people about their jobs, you’ll find that they can easily tell you what they do and how they do it.

It’s understanding WHY they do it that becomes so challenging for them.

Interestingly, Sinek has often emphasized that it is the WHY that is the most important question of the Golden Circle. After all, how can you expect to attract motivation and inspire action in your team members and business if you aren’t sure of your purpose?

Not only does this apply to an individual’s mindset, but you can use it in any aspect of your life. Understanding the WHY is important for figuring out your whole purpose. Otherwise, it‘ll only become a chore for you, and eventually you’ll want to look for a way out.

Important Character Traits to Instill in Yourself to Become a Great Leader

Authenticity and Trustworthiness

Leading by example is the only way you can get others to listen to you, which makes these the most important traits of inspiring leaders. Don’t be afraid to take the blame when anything goes wrong and be quick to give credit to people who deserve it.

Self-Awareness and Centeredness

Every one of us has vain tendencies. After all, we‘re only human.

But, in order to be successful, getting over your pride becomes crucial. You need to adopt an objective view where you can have polite yet firm conversations, all while acknowledging emotions.

Centeredness is the state of mindfulness that lets you stay calm even if distressed, listen to and emphasize with your team, and stay present. Here, staying calm – externally as well as internally – plays a significant role in inspiring and motivating your team.

Optimism

Strong women leaders should be in control of themselves – mentally and physically.

You see, your outlook toward life affects your mood and behavior, and ultimately it affects your team members and your business. This is precisely why an optimistic outlook is a key aspect of inspirational leadership. Even when your team members focus too much on the negatives, you should do your best to encourage them. Not only will this help you win over your team’s trust, but they’ll also recognize you as a leader.

Summing Up

To become a highly effective female leader, you need to first develop a leader’s attitude. You have to be aware of your strengths, and then nurture them.

Figure out your purpose – what you want to do, and most importantly, why you want to do it.

You need to understand that you are a work in progress, so you always have to be ready to take all the necessary steps to move forward – but not alone. You take your team with you.
