How to do a Successful Email Follow Up (After no Response)

By Six Degrees Society

How many times have you been guilty of forgetting to respond to an email? I sure have and am grateful for a gentle reminder. I have also felt turned off by people’s follow ups and felt reminded that this person is being too pushy and due to their follow up they move down my priority list.

Here are 4 tips on how to send a follow up email after no response. These tips will make you a more successful entrepreneur and get that person on a call, or whatever you want them to do next.

1. Write an eye-catching subject line

The subject line is one of the easiest ways to get someone’s attention. Can you find a shared connection you have with the individual like a friend or a city? Did someone refer you to this person? Make sure to use that person’s name to get their attention.

2. Add a clear call to action like a calendar booking link

One of the biggest frustrations I have when someone emails is they will send times out that work for them in the next immediate dates. Avoid the email ping pong and send a calendar booking link to make scheduling that much easier.

3. Provide a deadline

If your follow up is time sensitive, provide a deadline of when you need to hear back from them. Nothing makes it easier to respond than a sense of urgency.

4. Be understanding of their schedule

Note within the email how busy you understand the person to be and to acknowledge the amount of time you want with them. Is it a 15 minute phone call? A two minute email response. Let them know how much time it’ll take to engage with you.
Whatever your reason for following up, persistence is important to stay top of mind. Check out these email follow up templates for all occasions.
