SDS: Can you walk us through who you are, what you do and your journey to entrepreneurship?

AMANDA DIMARCO: Hi loves! My name is Amanda DiMarco (soon-to-be Fowler😛) and I’m a holistic mindset and wellness coach, micro-influencer, mama of two, and founder of The Pretty Naked — a community for wellness curious womxn who are looking to explore different avenues of self growth through virtual events, blog posts, journaling, & recipes.

Some fun facts about me: I’m an Aquarius sun and moon, a virgo rising and I’ve never resonated more to anything ever. I live in Denver, CO and adore the different elements of nature we’re exposed to here. I’m a sucker for a matcha latte, any movement that is outdoors, Disney movies, journaling, long drives, and helping women GROW mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

SDS: Amanda, as the founder of The Pretty Naked, you help individuals learn and implement self care into their lives. What inspired this business?

AM: What’s the word count limit? Kidding, but really there are a million reasons I created The Pretty Naked. The first and arguably the biggest reason I started this community is because I wanted to find a way to connect with women over self care. I got really into my wellness and self care journey in college — a time where the only way the rest of my peers were socializing was by binge drinking on the weekends. Since I wasn’t interested in waking up hungover three days a week (plus having substanceless conversations and connections with people), I began to feel really isolated and was longing for a tribe of like minded women.

One thing I realized while I was on my wellness journey is that you can be the healthiest individual physically, but you won’t be truly happy without having a sense of community and genuine connections. I created The Pretty Naked as a platform where women could not only prioritize their self care and wellness goals, but also connect with other women who shared similar goals and passions. I wanted to make self care and self growth more social.

The other piece to this was the idea that self care can be intimidating, inaccessible, and expensive. I wanted to create a space where women could learn how to meditate or receive reiki energy without leaving their homes through a virtual event. I wanted to offer self care and self growth opportunities such as breathwork, yoga, journaling, and guest speaking events (among many others) to women for just $25 a month so that they could grow + prioritize themselves without breaking the bank. And finally, I wanted to make wellness feel approachable by providing easy to follow recipes, daily journaling prompts, blog-style articles and virtual events that were warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental. The business was born out of a very prominent need for stripping down wellness and helping women connect over it.

SDS: You are one of the most accomplished humans I know before turning 25. How do you balance kids, a relationship, you and your business?

AM: Thank you. There’s so much more I want to do, but that’s very kind. Honestly? I’m not sure if there’s balance, but rather a constantly evolving dance of give and take, ebb and flow, and tears and laughter. I really believe that as an entrepreneur, you need to be willing to sacrifice and go the extra mile. So sometimes that means my self care or social life goes out the window. However, I always ensure that I come back to it because the rest is equally as important as the productivity.

I’m a firm believer in the phrase “it takes a village.” I don’t think I could run 2.5 businesses and be a mom if I didn’t have help. Whether it’s my husband tag teaming with me so I can host an event when he finishes his 9-5, our babysitter coming once a week for a full day so I can take client calls, or my mom taking my son overnight one day so that my husband and I can have a date night and a sleep in – it all helps in feeling like I really can manage the responsibilities in my life. If there’s anything I’ve learned as a working mom, it’s that I always have mom-guilt when I’m working and work-guilt when I’m momming — and I’m terrible at asking for help. However, it truly takes an effing village. Ask for help. You can do it all, but you don’t need to.

The other thing I’ll add about creating “balance” in your life with a business, a relationship, kids, and self care is that you have to be picky with where your time is going. When you have so much on your plate, you can’t just be giving out your time to anyone or anything. Audit your time. Figure out what your priorities are, what is actually necessary, and what is ACTUALLY bringing you joy. Get rid of the rest. You deserve to create boundaries around your time.

SDS: What’s the most surprising thing about being a coach and entrepreneur? What’s delighted you the most since you’ve started?

AM: Honestly, what’s surprised me the most is how much I genuinely love coaching. I feel like a lot of people “warned” me about being a coach because it can be emotionally draining to take on the struggles, desires, concerns, and goals of multiple human beings and give so much of your time and energy. But at the end of the day, this is the sh*t that lights me UP! Nothing is more rewarding than helping someone reach a breakthrough, realization, or achieve a goal.

The other thing that surprised me about being a coach and entrepreneur is how many different hats you wear. Not only are you the coach, creator, and founder, but you’re also the marketing director, finance department, PR person, and customer experience lead. In entrepreneurship I feel like if I’m not working, the work isn’t getting done, so that was definitely very eye-opening. However, this is why I need to get better at delegating because I definitely know it doesn’t have to feel this way all the time.

SDS: What advice do you have for individuals starting their business, raising a family and fearing taking time off for maternity leave?

AM: Oh man. Well first and foremost I want to add that while I do practice what I preach, it’s still easier said than done. For me, the thing that’s helped the most is trusting divine timing. I think at first, I was angry that I became a mom at a young age while still having so many career aspirations. The thought of taking maternity leave felt like a setback after I’ve created so much momentum in my businesses. However, if there’s anything that becoming a mom taught me, is that there is so much magic that happens within stillness, presence, and motherhood as a whole.

Every time I release the need to control, I lean into the season of life that I’m in. I really trust that this life experience is happening for me (not against me), and in alignment with my divine timing. I am amazed at how much I learn and grow. These are invaluable days, weeks, and months. You are recovering physically. You are adjusting mentally. And you are navigating the intense, scary, beautiful, and wild emotions that come with postpartum. You need this time to step away from work and focus on yourself and your new baby. Your business will be there waiting for you when you get back and you’ll bring a newfound sense of inspiration, knowledge, and perspective with you that is only going to HELP your business in the long run. *Making a mental note to read this over when I’m on maternity leave.*
